PROGRAM BOARD STORKE PLAZA CONCERTS<\/h2>\n

AS Program Board<\/a> brings free music to Storke Plaza during the lunch hour every Wednesday. Free ice cream too!<\/p>\n

MEATLESS MONDAYS<\/h2>\n

Acting on a proposal from the Environmental Affairs Board<\/a>, the UCSB dining commons implemented \u201cMeatless Mondays\u201d in Spring Quarter 2010.<\/p>\n

They are now an integral part of the student dining experience at UCSB. EAB suggested the program to raise awareness about the negative environmental, health, social, and animal welfare impacts of meat consumption, and to educate students about the tremendous benefits of cutting out meat from their diets one day a week (or more!). Meatless Monday is part of a national movement to improve the health of people and the planet.<\/p>\n

ANNUAL GIVE SALE<\/a><\/h2>\n

The end of year GIVE sale raised x dollars, through the sale of articlesraised x dollars, through the sale of articlesranging from sofas to silverware donated by students moving out of Isla Vista. The collection and sale is supported by several A.S. groups, including the Isla Vista Tenants Union<\/a> (IVTU), the Community Affairs Board<\/a> (CAB), the EVPLA\u2019s office, and Recycling<\/a>.<\/p>\n

CAREER EXPO<\/h2>\n

The Annual Career Expo sponsored by the Community Affairs Board<\/a> and Career Services<\/a> brought 43 employers ranging from humanitarian organizations to several defense contractors to campus. The event facilitates networking and provides information about the benefits of community involvement.<\/p>\n

CAB CARE FAIR<\/h2>\n

CAB\u2019s<\/a> annual CARE Fair was attended by about 400 students and brought a wide spectrum of local and national non-profit organizations and support services to Corwin Pavilion. Nearly 50 organizations provided information about volunteer opportunities, internships, and employment serving the community.<\/p>\n

RELAY FOR LIFE<\/h2>\n

Several A.S. groups including, IV Community Relations Committee<\/a>, Community Affairs Board<\/a>, Environmental Affairs Board<\/a>, participated in the annual Relay for Life<\/a> to raise awareness and money for cancer research. The event also celebrates the lives of cancer victims and survivors and the family members and friends who support them.<\/p>\n

CALIFORNIA STUDENT SUSTAINABILITY CONVERGENCE<\/h2>\n

The Environmental Affairs Board<\/a> worked with the California Student Sustainability Coalition<\/a> to host this year\u2019s California Student Sustainability Convergence at Corwin Pavilion. The event, like all Coalition initiatives, unites, connects, supports, and empowers students from across California to transform their educational institutions and communities into models of ecological, economic, and social sustainability<\/p>\n

SANTA BARBARA DO IT YOURSELF (SBDIY)<\/h2>\n

The Isla Vista Community Relations Committee<\/a> (IVCRC) provides significant funding for \u00a0SBDIY<\/a>\u00a0(Santa Barbara Do It Yourself), which brings about 20 concerts per quarter to Isla Vista, including many nationally touring acts.<\/p>\n

PROGRAM BOARD OPEN MICS<\/h2>\n

Each quarter Program Board<\/a> sponsors several Open Mic<\/a> nights at Giovanni\u2019s Pizza in Isla Vista to showcase local performers and provide fledgling artists a space to hone their chops. ASPB also brings a singer songwriter evening to the Hub each quarter.<\/p>\n

EAB DORM WATER COMPETITION<\/h2>\n

Environmental Affairs Board<\/a>\u00a0(EAB) announced the winner of the Spring Quarter\u00a0 Dorm Water Competition. Santa Cruz saved 1200 gallons of water and Anacapa saved 800 gallons, totaling\u00a02000 gallons of water saved. That\u2019s approximately 78,000 gallons per\u00a0 9 month academic year, which translates to almost 4 average swimming pools worth of water.<\/p>\n

GREEN CHEF COMPETITION<\/h2>\n

Environmental Affairs Board<\/a> (EAB) hosted a fantastic Green Chef cooking contest with over 70 participants, who were both EAB members and not affiliated with the group. The competition featured 35 different dishes, local bands and a guest speaker and sought to educate UCSB about sustainable food.<\/p>\n

IV EARTH DAY<\/h2>\n

The annual Earth Day celebration filled Anisq \u2018Oyo\u2019 park with a carnival atmosphere and provided information about student environmental and sustainability initiatives. Local bands brought students and community members alike to their feet and a fine time was had by all.\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

CHILLAVISTA<\/h2>\n

Chillavista was started 5 years ago to bring out the best in the IV community. It didn\u2019t disappoint! From music to activism to a host of creative endeavors IV is a unique community, a community worth celebrating. AS provides significant funding for this celebration and students produced another stellar event.<\/p>\n

PARDALL CARNIVAL<\/h2>\n

Sponsored by the Community Affairs Board<\/a> (CAB) and Isla Vista Community Relations Committee<\/a> (IVCRC) Pardall Carnival once again bridged the gap between students and the families that make up the IV community. It included carnival rides, games, and other entertainment. Student groups tabled to provide information about their activities.<\/p>\n

STUDENT OF COLOR CONFERENCE<\/h2>\n

Students from all over the state came together at the 22nd<\/sup> annual Student of Color Conference<\/a> hosted by students at UCSB to condemn the recent surge of hate crimes and violence targeted at students of color and intersecting communities. The three days of events included performances by La MariColectiva,<\/a> Peggy Lee, Suheir Hammad<\/a>, Climbing Poetree<\/a>, and Heavy Impact<\/a>. There was also a rally and march through Isla Vista to raise awareness regarding issues affecting students of color.<\/p>\n

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT<\/h2>\n

Take Back the Night<\/a>\u00a0(TBTN) educates the community regarding sexual assault.<\/p>\n

MEDIA RELATIONS PROMOTIONS<\/h2>\n

Working through the Media Relations Committee students promoted events including: Study Jam, AS info sees, The Shape of Water screening, Credit Workshop, Madea Family reunion screening, LAN party, Mens Basketball Rally, Mens Rugby Game, BCC Recruitment fair.<\/p>\n

INTERNSHIPS FUNDED BY COASTAL FUND<\/h2>\n

Check out how many internships were funded by Coastal Fund<\/a> this academic year!<\/p>\n

Fall 2010: 96 interns, $42,028.50
\nWinter 2011: 54 interns, $32,778.00
\nSpring 2011: 37 interns, $34,746.68

A.S. Cashiers Office Short Term Loans<\/h2>\n

Registered UCSB students can take out short-term loans of $100 to $200 at the A.S Cashiers Office<\/a>. They can take out up to two loans per quarter, provided the first loan is paid back in full.<\/p>\n

Legal Resource Center Services<\/h2>\n

Attorneys at the A.S. Legal Resource Center provide free legal advice to students. Common issues include, landlord and roommate disputes, alcohol related violations, and questions surrounding the newly implemented social host ordinance. The Center does not address university related matters. The A.S. Student Advocate addresses university related cases.<\/p>\n

SIRCC GUIDES Program<\/h2>\n

The Student Initiated Recruitment and Retention Committee (SIRCC) implemented the GUIDES<\/a> (Guiding Undergraduates In Developing Educational Success) mentorship program. The program provides mentors and tutors for first year undergraduates and high school students at San Marcos High School.<\/p>\n

KCSB’S Cathy Murillo Elected As New City Council Member<\/h2>\n

Former KCSB News Director Cathy Murillo<\/a> successfully ran for local office and is now a member of the Santa Barbara City Council<\/a>. She is the first Latina to serve on the council.<\/p>\n

KCSB Gaucho Sports Spot<\/h2>\n

The Gaucho Sports Spot is broadcast tri-weekly on KCSB FM 91.9<\/a>. The sports update show airs in fall, winter and spring, quarters. It features reviews and previews of games, live interviews, and roundtable discussion of a wide range of issues surrounding UCSB athletics.<\/p>\n

IVTU on Rental Housing Roundtable<\/h2>\n

The Isla Vista Tenants Union is a key member of the Rental Housing Roundtable. Working with the Executive Vice President for Local Affairs Office they represented students in the discussions around the Social Host Ordinance implemented this year.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Campus-wide Elections<\/h2>\n

The A.S. Elections Committee<\/a> organizes campus elections including the production of all elections materials, candidate orientations, candidate debates, election day monitoring, and announcement of the winners. The result was a turnout of almost 40% of students, which is among the highest in the UC system.<\/p>\n
