<\/a><\/p>\nA.S. Recycling strives to close the loop, ending the waste cycle, by reducing consumption, reusing new materials, and most importantly, buying recycled material.<\/p>\n
Early this year Sarah Siedschlag<\/a> joined A.S. as the new Recycling Program Coordinator. She is working with students to expand the program, which now also includes workshops open to the public that promote sustainable gardening practices and support local growers. Keeping it local is part of the larger effort to reduce our carbon footprint and build sustainable communities. A good example of one of the workshops is:<\/p>\n Participants were taught everything they need to know to grow summer vegetables like\u00a0tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, even in limited spaces! A local\u00a0expert was on hand to provide tips and experience that participants could use to\u00a0plan and build their own summer gardens.<\/p>\n More about Recycling events\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n During Spring quarter Recycling began implementation of a campus-wide collection system for compostable waste. Bins around campus accept both food waste and compostable packaging.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Although the launch in the Arbor was greeted by rain, spirits were undamped and passersby were able to get information about the new program.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A.S.
