SIRRC Retreat<\/p><\/div>\n

SIRRC Retreat<\/p><\/div>\n

The Student Initiated Outreach and Retention Committee had a productive year outreaching to local high schools and working to mentor current students. It began with a well attended retreat to map out the upcoming year.<\/p>\n

Making Plans<\/p><\/div>\n

At San Marcos High School UCSB students assisted students with their homework and advised them on how best to prepare for and apply for college.<\/p>\n

SIRRC also hosted a movie night for high school students and gave students from 4 different schools tours of the campus. The tours included a student panel where the K-12 students were allowed to ask other students about their experiences in higher education.<\/p>\n

Students hosted a midterm and finals Study Jams where about 70 students were in attendance as well as study skills workshops.<\/p>\n

As part of retention efforts, the committee worked on workshops for CSB students regarding resources available to them as students.<\/p>\n

The books in the A.S. SIRRC Book Bank were all catalogued, labeled, and scanned onto SIRRC\u2019s online system and work was done on the protocol for the system.<\/p>\n

SIRRC Chair Ivan\u00a0 Lamas-Sanchez contacted other SIRRC chairs and committees in the UC system to share information and ideas.<\/p>\n
