The AS Food Bank Committee advises the operation of the AS Food Bank, helps to sustain the stock of the AS Food Bank, and provides additional programming and educational workshops to meet the mission of the AS Food Bank.The AS Food Bank Committee promoted the A.S. Food Bank<\/a> in various ways this year. An important component of these efforts was collaboration with many groups throughout the year.<\/p>\n

The committee joined forces with the Community Affairs Board<\/a> (CAB) and held a donation walk in Goleta collecting non-perishable food donations for Food Bank. They also collected clothing donations for Casa Esperanza<\/a> a local homeless shelter. The committee also worked with A.S. Program Board<\/a> during a Colors Magazine<\/a> event. When Program Board brought the Mirazozo Luminarium<\/a> to campus admission was free with a suggested donation of food to the Food Bank or shoes to Soles4Souls<\/a> at the entrance.<\/p>\n

The committee collaborated with the Student Commission on Racial Equality<\/a>\u00a0(SCORE) during their 13th<\/sup> Annual Facing Race Conference<\/a> in March. This collaboration included a presentation addressing the rising cost of tuition and the impact that this has had on hunger.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the year for the AS Food Bank was running for a fee initiative during the undergraduate and graduate spring elections. The committee made many classroom presentations in order to get around 3000 signatures on the petition to get on the ballot. The committee created many lawn signs, buttons, and posters and tabled during election week in order to promote the Fee Initiative. The AS Food Bank undergraduate and graduate fee initiative both passed and the money received will be used to help expand the AS Food Bank for the future.<\/p>\n

Throughout the year, the AS Food Bank Committee put on 6 donation drives, became a Multicultural Center<\/a> (MCC) user, created a new brochure, and also created a committee manual for future years to use. The AS Food Bank committee planned the 1st<\/sup> Year Anniversary Celebration of being in operation. The event acknowledged all of the organizations and people that have helped the AS Food Bank get to where it is today. The committee accomplished so much this past year and is looking forward to the upcoming year to expand even more.<\/p>\n

The AS Food Bank Committee for 2011-2012 included Co-Chairs Annie Alexandrian and Steven Lopez, Internal Affairs Coordinator Jennelle Fong, External Affairs Coordinator Erick Lankey, Secretary Miwa Gutierrez, Treasurer Alvaro Plaza, Publicity Coordinator Christian Arevalo, Legislative Council Rep Xenia Mendez. Tuyen Nyguen<\/a> is the advisor for the AS Food Bank.<\/p>\n
