Elections, because most A.S. groups were up due to have their lock-ins reaffirmed. According to the AS Constitution, all lock-ins initiated through the A.S. Elections process are placed on the ballot for reaffirmation every two years. There were eighteen \u00a0A.S. lock-ins up for reaffirmation this year.\u00a0As in past years, A.S. responded with an informational &#8220;Care to Know&#8221; campaign to let the campus know why these lock-ins are important and why the A.S. groups in question deserve continued student support.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3607\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3607\" style=\"width: 191px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3607\" alt=\"407988_575558665796568_1901693053_n\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/407988_575558665796568_1901693053_n-191x300.jpg\" width=\"191\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/407988_575558665796568_1901693053_n-191x300.jpg 191w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/407988_575558665796568_1901693053_n.jpg 573w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3607\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Poster by Senior Artist Beth Ramone<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The groups up for reaffirmation were\u00a0Bike Shop,\u00a0Bicycle System (Bike Comm),\u00a0Childcare (Grant), (KCSB)\u00a0Communications Personnel ,\u00a0CAB,\u00a0Community Financial Fund,\u00a0EAB,\u00a0IV Improvements (IVCRC),\u00a0IVTU,\u00a0Legal Service (LRC),\u00a0Recycling,\u00a0SCORE,\u00a0Shoreline (Coastal Fund),\u00a0Womyn&#8217;s Commission,\u00a0Take Back The Night,\u00a0UC Student Association,\u00a0KCSB, and\u00a0Program Board<\/p>\n<p>In anticipation of the election A.S. launched an <i>educational campaign <\/i>that neither endorsed nor opposed a particular fee initiative on the ballot, but rather\u00a0<i>raised<\/i>\u00a0<i>awareness<\/i> of Associated Students and its countless contributions to UCSB and the surrounding community. \u00a0All lock-in receiving BCCs contributed to an <i>educational campaign account <\/i>to be used to spread awareness about A.S. during the first four weeks of Spring Quarter. The goal was to raise between $8000-$10,000 for the<i>\u00a0campaign with all A.S. groups contributing what they could and all groups being equally represented in the informational campaign.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, in advance of the last A.S. Reaffirmation of this size, students and staff strategized the &#8220;Care To Know&#8221; Associated Students campaign. This time the\u00a0<i>education campaign<\/i> employed several mediums, including quarter-sheets, 8&amp;1\/2&#215;11 and 11&#215;17 fliers and posters, buttons, Nexus and TBL ads, created links via the AS website to all sorts of information, OrgSync, Digi-Knows and more!<\/p>\n<p>Because the A.S. Elections Code prohibits the use of student-fee dollars for \u201ccampaigning,\u201d \u00a0these efforts were not directly about supporting the reaffirmations. Instead they highlighted the many services and opportunities for involvement offered by A.S.<\/p>\n<p>As in past years, students reaffirmed all A.S. locking-ins!<\/p>\n<h2>Elected Executive Officers<\/h2>\n<p>President: \u00a0Jonathan Abboud<\/p>\n<p>Internal Vice President: \u00a0Kyley &#8220;Ky&#8221; Scarlet<\/p>\n<p>External Vice President for Local Affairs: \u00a0Alexander &#8220;Alex&#8221; Moore<\/p>\n<p>External Vice President for Statewide Affairs: \u00a0Alexandria &#8220;Alex&#8221; Choate<\/p>\n<p>Student Advocate General: Kristian Whittaker<\/p>\n<h2>Elections Forum<\/h2>\n<p>This year the Elections Committee made a significant change in how they plan for the following year&#8217;s election by addressing election code issues during the Spring Quarter soon after the election, rather than during the following year. The committee invited students to speak before the committee in a forum style meeting so that they could hear recommendations from the student body before their internal committee deliberations.
