{"id":147,"date":"2011-05-24T18:06:31","date_gmt":"2011-05-24T18:06:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2010-11\/?page_id=147"},"modified":"2015-01-27T20:08:24","modified_gmt":"2015-01-27T20:08:24","slug":"kcsb","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/kcsb\/","title":{"rendered":"KCSB 91.9 FM"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introduction<\/h2>\n<p>Community radio <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcsb.org\">KCSB 91.9 FM<\/a> has been bringing alternative programming to Santa Barbara County for over 50 years!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3091\" title=\"Ex Comm 2012\/2013\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Excomm2012-2013.jpg\" alt=\"Excomm2012-2013\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Excomm2012-2013.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Excomm2012-2013-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Excomm2012-2013-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Excomm2012-2013-700x393.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>UCSB Reads<\/h2>\n<p>As in past years,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcsb.org\">KCSB 91.9 FM<\/a>\u00a0participated in the UCSB Reads program by reading the selected book,\u00a0<em>Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/joshuafoer.com\">Joshua Foer<\/a>, on the air.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/2013-01-22_12-01-07_584-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"2013-01-22_12-01-07_584\" width=\"660\" height=\"371\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The annual event, which is a collaborative effort between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.ucsb.edu\">Davidson Library<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/evc.ucsb.edu\">Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor<\/a> Gene Lucas, and receives significant funding from A.S., includes the distribution of 2000 free copies of the book to students and stirs the campus pot to generate discussion of current issues across campus. KCSB participates by inviting volunteers to read the book on the air in daily half hour segments.<\/p>\n<h2>Live Coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions<\/h2>\n<p>During Fall Quarter 2012 KCSB News and The Bottom Line news staff and students collaborated to report from the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.\u00a0Two Associated Students staff members, KSCB and The Bottom Line News Advisor Monica Lopez and Community Education Outreach Coordinator Allina Mojarro, and two students, KCSB News Director Bianca Beltran and The Bottom Line Executive Managing Editor Annalise Domenighini, traveled to Tampa, Florida and Charlotte, North Carolina to provide remote news coverage of the conventions.\u00a0 Bianca and Annalise both produced written and audio content for KCSB and The Bottom Line.\u00a0Monica and Allina Mojarro were on hand to report and engineer the daily remote live broadcasts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Occupy-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4043\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Occupy-2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Occupy 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Occupy-2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Occupy-2-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Occupy-2-700x466.jpg 700w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/Occupy-2.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The group spent one week in Tampa, Florida covering events in and around the Republican National Convention. This coverage included protests held in the local Tampa area, and events inside the convention hall. The second week of coverage took the group to Charlotte, North Carolina to cover the Democratic National Convention.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Papers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4044\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Papers-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"No Papers\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Papers-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Papers-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Papers-700x466.jpg 700w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Papers.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Live remote broadcasts were aired on KSCB daily news for the two weeks of the conventions.\u00a0The student news reporters covered the events, the social issues highlighted in the protests, and rallies and political issues addressed by the presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.\u00a0 In an exclusive interview, the news team reported live with UCSB alumni, Kitzia Esteva and her mother, just hours after they were released by Charlotte police for their act of civil disobedience in front of the convention.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>KCSB Fundraiser<\/h2>\n<h3>Proboscis Radio Theater\u2019s\u00a0LIVE FROM THE PIANO KITCHEN<\/h3>\n<p>The February taping of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LiveFromThePianoKitchen\">Proboscis Radio Theater\u2019s\u00a0LIVE FROM THE PIANO KITCHEN<\/a>, a\u00a0variety\u00a0radio program recorded in front of a live downtown Santa Barbara audience on\u00a0the first Saturday of every\u00a0month, took take place for the first time on campus\u00a0this year. \u00a0It was performed as a\u00a0benefit for KCSB-FM Community Radio and donations were taken at the door to kick off KCSB\u2019s annual fund drive 2013,\u00a0\u201cKCSB You Rock My World.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3018\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/LiveFromThePianoKitchen-300x199.jpeg\" alt=\"LiveFromThePianoKitchen\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/LiveFromThePianoKitchen-300x199.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/LiveFromThePianoKitchen-700x465.jpeg 700w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/LiveFromThePianoKitchen.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<div>A ninety-minute radio variety program that features\u00a0original radio drama, live musical guests, comedy,\u00a0storytelling, and\u00a0interviews, the monthly show has been dubbed a \u201cPrairie Home Companion\u201d for\u00a0local Santa\u00a0Barbarans, and is broadcast on KCSB-FM 91.9 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcsb.org\/webcast\">www.kcsb.org\/webcast<\/a>) from 10:00-11:30pm, the same time the\u00a0following\u00a0week. Local composer\/bass player <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimconnollymusic.com\/Jim_Connolly,_Composer,_Double_Bass,_Gove_County_String_Quartet\/Home.html\">Jim Connolly<\/a>, writer\/actor <a href=\"http:\/\/mdbernard.com\">Michael Bernard<\/a> and UCSB Theater\u00a0Department Faculty member\u00a0Jeff Mills co-host and co-produce the show. An original radio drama\u00a0(written by Bernard) was performed by a cast made up of UCSB Theater\u00a0Students,\u00a0faculty members, and local actors. Bernard was quoted as saying, \u201cWe\u2019re excited to\u00a0share this latest PIANO KITCHEN performance\u00a0with a live audience at the\u00a0University for the very first time, as we already have a number of existing\u00a0ties to\u00a0UCSB.\u201d February\u2019s guest performers included spoken-word artist (and\u00a0UCSB Art Department Faculty member)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/seaweedproductions.com\">Kip Fulbeck<\/a> and comedian <a href=\"http:\/\/seanconroy.com\">Sean Conroy<\/a> (Upright Citizens Brigade Theater\/ASSSSCAT, Conan\u00a0O&#8217;Brien, and the\u00a0HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival), musical duo\u00a0JAY GALVIN\u00a0(guitar) and\u00a0RACHEL GALVIN\u00a0(viola), plus special\u00a0surprise guests.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>KCSB Concert<\/h2>\n<p>KCSB hosted a free concert in the Hub with\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3068\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/KCSB13-Poolside.jpg\" alt=\"KCSB13-Poolside\" width=\"1280\" height=\"722\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/KCSB13-Poolside.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/KCSB13-Poolside-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/KCSB13-Poolside-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/KCSB13-Poolside-700x394.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/poolsidemusic.com\">Poolside<\/a>.
