Introduction<\/h2>\n

AS Program Board<\/a>\u00a0(ASPB) continued its decades long tradition of bringing student-centered programming to the UCSB campus. The student-run board has consistently been generously funded by student lock-in fees, because it brings programs that students want to the UCSB community. \u00a0Major Concerts<\/h2>\n

Concerts is Program Board large with artists chosen by students for students. In the process of bringing great performers to campus, students learned all aspects of concert production, including working with agents, booking, contracts, advertising, sound, lights, and stage set up and management. Beginning with the annual Welcome Concert, ASPB booked a range of well known acts culminating in the year-end Extravaganza<\/a> festival in Harder Stadium<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Welcome Concert<\/h3>\n

ASPB’s Welcome Concert has become a beginning of year tradition at UCSB. This year brought a cooler groove than in years past with the experimental sounds of\u00a0Flying Lotus<\/a>. FlyLo, as he is known to his fans, is an experimental music producer\/rapper from Los Angeles who has worked with a range of well-known artists as well as providing music for television and film projects.<\/p>\n

Hub Concerts<\/h3>\n

The Hub<\/a> in the University Center<\/a> (UCen) has been host to several concerts produced by ASPB, sometimes in collaboration with the UCen and other groups, including KCSB<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hoodie Allen<\/a>, Schoolboy Q<\/a>, Tyler Ward<\/a>,\u00a0Bonobo DJSet<\/a>, Flosstradaumus<\/a>, and Best Coast<\/a><\/p>\n

Storke Plaza Noon Concerts<\/h2>\n

Introduction<\/h3>\n

Program Board once again brought a variety of music to Storke Plaza. The weekly noon concerts not only present newer bands to the students, they also teach students participating in ASPB how to set up concerts for smaller venues using a premium quality sound system. In addition, the Program Board ice-cream cart serving free ice-cream has become a much appreciated feature of the Wednesday lunch hour at Storke Plaza.<\/p>\n

Open Mic at Gio’s<\/h2>\n

\"open-mic-80x80\"Giovanni’s Pizza in IV was home to Program Board’s Open Mic Night open to any and all. Giovanni’s is the ideal venue for folks wanting to get out of their dorm room or apartments and perform in front of a receptive audience.<\/p>\n

Yes indeed, there was ice skating in Corwin Pavilion before winter break. Program Board’s Winter Wonderland brought a rink to Corwin. Through the wonder of modern technology skaters were able to show off their moves and take it beyond the old figure eight!<\/p>\n

Battle of the Bands<\/h2>\n

AS Program Board Presented its annual Battle of the Bands featuring\u00a0the best of IV\u2019s local talent as they competed to perform in the opening spot of this year\u2019s EXTRAVAGANZA.<\/p>\n

ASPB invited students to “get ready for the fiery explosion of guitars and drums and basses and glorious shrieking vocals, and probably other instruments that will leave your ear drums bleeding in sonic euphoria. Get ready for the show that will leave you pissing pure awesome for the next three days. Get ready to radiate pure rock glory, or funk glory, or punk glory, or\u2026 whatever. Just glory.”<\/p>\n

Student acts included\u00a0Sloppy Job<\/a>,\u00a0The Ol\u00e9\u2019s<\/a>,\u00a0Alpha Phunk, and\u00a0Andy Dick & The Dicks<\/a>. And the winner was, drum rolllll >>>Alpha Phunk!<\/p>\n

ASPB Film Series<\/h2>\n

Introduction<\/h3>\n

ASPB films are one source of entertainment outside the IV drinking and party culture. In general, the films are ones that have recently been in theaters. They’re screened free of charge to UCSB students at the recently renovated IV Theater.<\/p>\n

Annual Poetry Showcase<\/h2>\n

The 2013 Poetry Showcase, featured a lineup of UCSB spoken word artists and spoken word artist Anis Mojgani<\/a>\u00a0a spoken word poet, visual artist and musician based in Austin, Texas. Mojgani has been characterized as a “geek genius\u201d with “fiercely hopeful word arias\u201d.<\/p>\n

Exxopolis Luminarium<\/h2>\n

The Luminarium returned to UCSB after drawing longer and longer lines last year! This year Architects of Air<\/a> brought its 20th<\/sup>\u00a0luminarium entitled \u2018EXXOPOLIS\u2019<\/a>. EXXOPOLIS takes its inspiration from natural geometry and Islamic architecture.\u00a0 The principal dome \u2013 the CUPOLA – was inspired by the circular space of the Chapter House of Southwell Minster<\/a>. The luminaria are definitely unique experiential spaces of light, color, sound, and people. Brought to you free by ASPB with a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item to the A.S. Food Bank.<\/p>\n
