{"id":2870,"date":"2013-01-17T17:48:20","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T17:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/?page_id=2870"},"modified":"2013-07-08T18:05:10","modified_gmt":"2013-07-08T18:05:10","slug":"cab-foundation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/cab-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"CAB Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introduction<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cab.as.ucsb.edu\/funding\/cab-foundation\/\">CAB Foundation<\/a> seeks to enhance the educational experience of UCSB students by issuing grants for ongoing service-based programs or projects that foster greater awareness regarding social, educational, economic, and environmental issues. \u00a0These programs must engage UCSB undergraduate students as volunteers or leaders as well as strive to have meaningful and lasting impact on the greater Santa Barbara community. The foundation has a broad interpretation of the word &#8220;community,&#8221; and can issue grants for up to $3000 for student and non-student groups alike.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CAB13-Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/flashback.as.ucsb.edu\/2012-13\/files\/2011\/05\/CAB13-Foundation.jpg\" width=\"1280\" height=\"1170\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During Fall Quarter the Foundation funded <a href=\"http:\/\/feelgoodworld.org\/chapter\/feelgoodsb\">Feel Good Santa Barbara<\/a> the UCSB chapter of <a href=\"http:\/\/feelgoodworld.org\/\">Feel Good<\/a>, which is dedicated to ending world hunger.<\/p>\n<h2>Isla Vista GIVE Drive<\/h2>\n<p>As a fitting end to a year of serving the IV community, several A.S. groups, including CAB and CAB Foundation, IVCRC, Business Services Committee, Finance Board, and IVTU, participated in the annual IV GIVE drive. The event, which is also sponsored by GIVE Isla Vista, Housing &amp; Residential Services, Office of Student Life, Marborg Disposal, Inc., Goodwill Industries, and The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF), is the culmination of a week of collecting items ranging from furniture to non-perishable foods from students moving out at the end of the year. These items are sold and all proceeds benefit local community service agencies. Items left over from the sale are donated to local \u00a0The food goes to stock the shelves of the A.S. Food Bank. This year GIVE raised $37,260.24. 138 volunteers worked 1,314.5 hours collecting about 30 tons of student donations. This included over 1289 pounds of food for the A.S. Food Bank, and hundreds of pounds of E-waste for A.S.
