<\/a><\/p>\n The Isla Vista Community Relations Committee<\/a> (IVCRC) and the Community Affairs Board<\/a> (CAB) kicked off the year with the annual Pardall Carnival, a day long festival that invites students and families to enjoy carnival rides, face painting, arts & crafts, and more, while picking up information about student and community groups that work locally to build and take care of our community. It all happens in downtown Isla Vista!<\/p>\n The Isla Vista Community Relations Committee (IVCRC) annually funds the IV Teen Center and the IV Youth Projects to hire UCSB students as tutors. This past year IVCRC spent over $153,000 supporting Isla Vista.<\/p>\n CAB co-sponsored the Pardall Carnival and Chilla Vista, and has funded numerous projects and entities that benefit the Isla Vista community, including: Hermanos Unidos\u2019 IV Community Thanksgiving Dinner, UCSB Honors\u2019 IV Tutoring Program, GIVE, the Pardall Center, and IV Surfrider\u2019s 15th Annual Concert for the Coast. CAB spent over $50,000 on these projects and gave out over $24,000 in childcare grants.<\/p>\n The Environmental Affairs Board (EAB) organizes Adopt-a-Block\u00a0weekly litter pick up in the streets of Isla Vista, two major beach cleanups every quarter, tree planting and habitat restoration, work with IV School, and produces the annual Isla Vista Earth Day Festival. EAB also co-sponsors events with the Isla Vista Food Co-op. In all, EAB spent over $10,000 on these projects this past year.<\/p>\n In 2013-2014 IV Tenants Union spent over $95,000 supporting Isla Vista.<\/p>\n BIKE COMMITTEE IN IV<\/p>\n The bike path between Isla Vista and campus was repainted and repaved this year, with a new slurry coat added as well. Bike Committee is involved in bike path maintenance projects both on campus and in IV.<\/p>\n In 2013-2014 AS Finance Board distributed almost $500,000 to a variety of groups registered with the UCSB Office of Student Life.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n In the 2010-2011 school year, a $2.10 lock-in student fee was created to create the Community Financial Fund<\/a> to\u00a0assist students by providing more access to grants and helping supplement the current Associated Students emergency loans. The fund established a credit builder program, regular financial literacy workshops, and helps students learn about financial resources and services available on the UCSB campus and within Santa Barbara County.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n AS Program Board<\/a>‘s annual Welcome Back Concert featured Israeli singer, DJ, and music producer Borgore<\/a>. The concert provided a high octane kick off for another great year of student centered programming!<\/p>\n The Queer Commission hosted Pride Week events in Isla Vista, including the Isla Vista Pride Festival, and co-sponsored the Take Back the Night rally and march.<\/p>\n <\/a>In the aftermath of the horrific killings of May 23, thousands of students attended a candlelight vigil in Anisq ‘Oyo’ Park, a memorial in Harder Stadium, and a paddle out near Campus Point to commemorate and celebrate the lives of the students who were murdered. AS students and staff were instrumental in organizing the first two events.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Vice President Biden addressed UCSB students, the families of the deceased, and the rest of the campus and IV communities in an almost five minute video that both acknowledges the deep sadness the killings have brought and provides a message of hope for the graduating Class of 2014. His speaking to students was the result of the work of former Internal Vice President Kyley Scarlet. Here’s the link<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n As in past years, the Office of the External Vice President for Local Affairs and other AS groups worked with campus and local officials to make the annual Isla Vista Halloween party as safe as possible. This included setting up a Hydration Station in IV\u2014Stay Hydrated, Stay Safe. It was much appreciated!<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Living History Project Coordinator Mahader Tesfai<\/a> exhibited his art at the UCSB Multicultural Center in winter quarter.
