Each year coastal fund grants total approximately $300,000 for the year. Applications to the fund are rigorously vetted by students and projects are required to report on their progress. Almost all grants from Coastal Fund fund student internships as part of the project.

Coastal Fund’s Coastal Service Program encourages student groups to participate in beach clean-ups and environmental restoration projects by compensating them for their efforts. For beach clean-ups the compensation is $100 for 2 hours. For the restoration projects, it’s $200 for a 2-3 hour commitment. Students clean several local beaches, including Goleta Beach/Campus Point, Depressions/Lagoon Area, IV Beach, and Devereux/Sands Beach.

This year’s Coastal Fund Board was: Gad Girling, Kelsey Bisson, Jack Morrow, Lauren Croshaw, Samantha Fulgham, Sara Rosenblatt, Daniel Ellis, and Jonathan Rothschild.

The Coastal Fund’s website lists the projects it funds.
