INTRODUCTION<\/h2>\n

“Thank you to the AS Media Center for all of their immense help throughout the 2014-2015 school year! The newly founded KCSB Film Committee would never have been able to achieve our goals without the film equipment that the Media Center\u00a0provided. As KJUC Manager and co-founder of the KCSB Film Committee, it was my dream to produce videos that represented KCSB in the digital world. With the Media Center’s help, we were able to do more than that. We were able to give back to our KCSB community by capturing KCSB as it really is. On a personal note, I had a wonderful time filming live bands, interviewing our very own radio DJs, and even pie-ing people in the face for our reaffirmation Instagram campaign. I couldn’t ask for a better senior year! Thank you again for all of the help!”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The AS Media Center<\/a> was revived and expanded in 2013 exactly for this reason, to support students in their creative and documentary work. During the past year, the center has fulfilled its promise in terms of making media equipment available to UCSB students free of charge. In fact, it’s been so successful that reservations are necessary\u00a0most days of the week and in particular on weekends.<\/p>\n

Students use the equipment for projects\u00a0ranging from the personal to class assignments to a variety of documentary and creative projects. A few have also taken advantage of the post production software on the Media Center computers.<\/p>\n

\"AR15-Media<\/a><\/p>\n

Recognizing the value of the center to both the general student body and AS itself, students have been increasingly supportive and provided funding for equipment and software purchases. The purpose of these purchases is to make equipment available to more\u00a0students and to give them the tools to make their productions as professional as possible.<\/p>\n

WORKSHOP WEDNESDAYS<\/h2>\n

The Media Center’s Workshop Wednesday’s series has offered a variety of weekly workshops throughout the year. The\u00a0workshops are\u00a0taught by both AS staff and students. They are open to both students and UCSB career staff. Although attendance has been low, the center staff is confident that it will increase as word gets out about the quality and applicability of the workshops.<\/p>\n

GAUCHO PHOTOGRAPHY<\/h2>\n

This year also saw the beginning of a collaboration with the new OSL (Office of Student Life) group, Gaucho Photography. Started by biopsychology major Alex Gonzalez, the club grew quickly from 40 to 250 members. Working with the club,\u00a0Media Center hopes to have equipment in place by the beginning of fall quarter 2015 so that the the center’s space can be used as a studio for both still photo and video production.
