The Creative Media Unit<\/a> is the umbrella for a variety of media activities at AS, including publicity, videography, and graphic design for the organization, and at the AS Media Center<\/a> equipment loans, post-production computers, and a studio space for photography and videography. It is directed by a student committee with support from AS career staff. The work is done by both student and career staff. This past year CMU and the Media Center became the home of two student-produced news programs, UCSB TV and The Bottom Line Broadcast.<\/p>\n

UCSB TV<\/h2>\n

UCSB TV is a weekly broadcast that updates students about on-campus events, gaucho sports, and local news. The shows can be viewed on YouTube by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

UCSB TV was created by former AS Senator Jenna Anderson during fall quarter 2016. She assembled a team of seven dedicated students to produce and host the program during the winter and spring quarters of 2017. The AS Finance and Business Committee with the approval of the Senate also deserve thanks for their support. The committee provided the funds needed to purchase additional equipment specifically designated for video production in the Media Center studio space.<\/p>\n

MEDIA CENTER<\/h2>\n

The AS Media Center continued to grow as the studio space inaugurated spring quarter 2016 became a go to space for student photographers and videographers. At the end of the spring quarter 2017 its services expanded to include LinkedIn and other professional head shots. Offering this service resulted from fraternities and sororities using the space for this purpose. Only one session was offered as a trial run, but now that AS has hired an official student photographer the service will be provided weekly starting in fall 2017. The hope is to collaborate with UCSB Career Services to provide information regarding how students can best manage their social media presence in preparation for the “real world.”<\/p>\n

The Media Center also hosts the media skill building “Workshop Wednesday” series. Typically, 6 to 7 workshops were offered during each quarter ranging from Photoshop to Videography. The workshops are taught by both A.S. staff and students.<\/p>\n

The AS Annex which houses the center is a hub of activity for A.S. groups including the Student Initiated Recruitment and Retention Committee (SIRRC), The Bottom Line newspaper, KCSB and Gaucho Photography the on-campus photography club. These groups meet weekly with students also using the space to study and meet informally. Gaucho Photography’s Halloween photoshoot in the Media Center studio space is one of the year’s highlights.<\/p>\n
