Introduction
Following a longstanding tradition, UCSB students funded a variety of organizations on and off campus this past year. During the A.S. fiscal year July 1 2011 to July 1, 2012, the A.S. executive officers’ offices and several A.S. boards, committees, and commissions evaluated applications. Coastal Fund (CF) alone granted almost $300,000. Other A.S. groups engaged in philanthropic giving included the A.S. executive offices, Isla Vista Community Relations Committee (IVCRC), and Community Affairs Board (CAB) Foundation. Whenever possible, this giving included provisions that the recipient provide paid internships for students.
Coastal Fund
Since its founding as the Shoreline Preservation Fund, Coastal Fund has given over 1.5 million dollars to fund projects that restore, maintain, and enhance the coastal zone around UCSB and Isla Vista. This year CF granted $266,878 to fund 43 projects. In most cases the recipients were required to provide paid internships for students.
On and off campus organizations funded included:
- Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration (CCBER)
- Coal Oil Point Reserve (COPR)
- Shorelines and Watersheds
- Environmental Defense Center (EDC)
- Reef Check Foundation
- Santa Barbara Audubon Society
