COMMUNITY AFFAIRS BOARD

ANNUAL GIVE SALE

CAB once again helped sponsor the GIVE sale that raised x dollars, through the sale of articles ranging from sofas to teddy bears donated by students moving out of Isla Vista at the end of the school year. In fact, GIVE is a brilliant idea—good quality housewares and other articles are recycled into the community rather than needing to be picked up and sent to the landfill.

The collection and sale, which is coordinated by the Isla Vista UCSB Liaison Office, is supported by several A.S. groups in addition to CAB, including the Isla Vista Tenants Union (IVTU), the EVPLA’s office, Isla Vista Community Relations Committee, and Recycling as well as organizations outside A.S. Major sponsors of GIVE include, UCSB Housing and Residential Services, and the Energy and Environmental Office. Additional support is provided by MarBorg Industries, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the UCSB Community Housing Office, the UCSB Office of Student Life, UCSB Parking Services, UCSB Physical Facilities, and UCSB and community volunteers.

The sale benefitted local schools and organizations, including Isla Vista Elementary School’s Science Camp Scholarship Fund and Latino Parent Night, Isla Vista Park and Recreation District’s Adopt-a-Block and children’s recreation programs, Isla Vista Teen Center, Isla Vista Youth Projects, the Optimist Club at UCSB and the Breakfast Optimist Club of Goleta, and Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara/Isla Vista. Among other beneficiaries are St. Brigid Fellowship, St. Michael’s University Church, the Santa Barbara Student Housing Co-Op, Olive Tree Initiative, and the Associated Students Food Bank.

Items not sold were donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a charity serving people in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties.
