UCSA & USSA

With passage of the Students’ Initiative, UCSB students approved a lock-in which provides substantial funding for UCSA. This past year this support was $139,000.

UCSA represents students at all UC campuses. Many of their concerns were  voiced at the 2011 Student Lobby Conference. They include ever increasing student fees; passage of the DREAM act; making the UC truly representative of the diverse population of California; implementation of restorative justice procedures on all campuses; student representation on the UC Investment Advisory Committee; preventing UCOP from taxing campus based fees, student fee referendum funds, and graduate and professional fees; and making sure there are no cuts to UC financial aid or enrollment of instate students to make room for out of state students and nor further cuts to students services and class offerings.

United States Student Association (USSA)

USSA is UCSA’s complement at the national level. It is the country’s oldest and largest student-led organization. It represents over 4 million students at over 400 campuses across the nation. The organization works to develop current and future leaders and amplify the student voice at the local, state, and national levels by mobilizing grassroots power to win concrete victories on student issues.

UCSB is represented at USSA by the External Vice President for External Affairs. Since passage of the Students Initiative the EVPLA has taken a delegation of approximately 20 students to Washington DC each year
