The Legal Resource Center (LRC) provides free legal counseling services to the UCSB campus. An ASLRC attorney is available to consult with all registered UCSB students on any issue or concern in which legal education would be helpful, unless it involves the university or another UCSB student. The center’s attorneys offer legal advice, education, information and/or referrals , and can assist students in identifying and resolving their legal problems.
Most of the cases brought to the LRC involve landlord/tenant disputes. The center can also provide advice regarding criminal citations, contracts, personal injury matters, consumer complaints, credit and debt problems, family law, traffic tickets, employment problems, and immigration.
The LRC also has over 50 self-help law books written for the layperson available to consult onsite.
This past year the LRC hosted several move in /move out workshops to make this process as smooth as possible for students. In collaboration with the Isla Vista Tenants Union they also advised students regarding the social host ordinance and negotiating Halloween in IV.
