QUEER COMMISSION

INTRODUCTION

Queer Wedding 2014 - 024 - Version 2

The A.S. Queer Commission  serves as an educational and advocacy forum for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT), Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI) student’s rights, with a commitment to representing and improving the status of LGBTQI students on campus and in the community. The A.S. Queer Commission is working toward becoming a diverse group of members that increases awareness, educates, elicits appreciation, offers insights, towards the LGBTQI community at UCSB and also the Tri-County area. The Commission also works together with other campus and community groups to overcome problems such as homophobia, heterosexism, transphobia, biphobia, hate incidents/crimes and other forms of oppression.

JANET MOCK AT MULTICULTURAL CENTER (MCC)

As stated on her website, “JANET MOCK is a writer, an advocate and the New York Times bestselling author of Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More, released by Atria Books/Simon & Schuster.

After publicly proclaiming her identity as a trans woman in a 2011 profile in Marie Claire magazine, Janet focused her efforts on speaking about the struggles, triumphs and portrayals of girls and women like herself. In 2012, she launched #GirlsLikeUs, a movement that encourages trans women to live visibly. She currently writes and speaks about her experience of living at the intersections of identities.”
