COMMISSION ON STUDENT WELL-BEING

INTRODUCTION

The Associated Students Commission on Student Well Being (COSWB) is committed to the general well being of UCSB undergraduates, with a particular emphasis on mental well being. Its purpose is to increase awareness, educate, advocate, and serve as a reference point for student social services. COSWB creates programs that provide a positive and comfortable environment for everyone on campus in order to stay true to its values of appreciating and preserving student well being. Some events COSWB hosted included, but were not limited to Yoga, Free Fitness Tuesdays, self-defense classes, food demos, movie screenings, and guest lectures.

Rally for IV Unity

Partnering with UCSB Vox, COSWB took part in the Ralley for IV Unity.

“You’re Not Pretty Enough”

COSWB hosted a lecture by Jennifer Tress author of You’re Not Pretty Enough.

FITNESS CLASSES

Free Fitness Tuesdays

In the interest of promoting general campus fitness COSWB offered free fitness classes every Tuesday at 5:30pm in the State St. Room of the Ucen. You can join them on their  Facebook group to get updates.

The Fall courses included: Pilates-Yoga Fusion, Kickboxing Hip Hop with Natalie, Breakdancing, and Zumba.

Yoga

During spring quarter COSWB offered Yoga classes in the Santa Rosa and Santa Catalina residence halls on Thursdays. The classes explored a variety of practices that improve strength, coordination, balance, endurance, and flexibility. Participants were taught how to release stress, calm their minds, develop their ability to concentrate, and emerge refreshed and renewed. The classes were free for all students, and snacks/drinks were provided. All were welcome!

The COSWB Eats Blog is a great source for healthy easy to prepare recipes, including eggplant Pomodoro Pasta, the Slammin’ Berry Yogurt Parfait, and a Not-So Typical Quesadilla, shown here.

Frequent Fitness Cards

Here’s the scoop straight from the COSWB website! Have you seen your fellow gauchos reppin’ COSWB in that awesome COSWB gear? And you were jealous, weren’t you? Well, for each time you come out to a COSWB event, you bring yourself one step closer to a piece of COSWB gear! Here’s how: 1) Come to a COSWB hosted event and receive a stamp card, and receive a stamp that day, 2) come to a second COSWB hosted event and receive a stamp, 3) repeat step 2. The prizes are as follows:

1 stamp = COSWB sticker
2 stamps = COSWB pen
3 stamps = COSWB stress ball
5 stamps = COSWB t-shirt/tank
8 stamps = COSWB sweatpants
10 stamps = COSWB hoodie
