Commission on Student Well Being (COSWB)

INTRODUCTION

The Associated Students Commission on Student Well Being (COSWB) is committed to the general well being of UCSB undergraduates, with a particular emphasis on physical, nutritional, and mental well-being. Its purpose is to increase awareness, educate, advocate, and serve as a reference point for student social services. COSWB creates programs that provide a positive and comfortable environment for everyone on campus in order to stay true to COSWB’S values of appreciating and preserving student well being. Some events the commission hosted include, but are not limited to Yoga, Free Fitness Tuesdays, self-defense classes, meditation workshops, and paint nights.

EVENTS

COSWB hosted another year of amazing events to keep students healthy and happy in body and mind! This is AS at its best taking care of fellow students and bringing people together. Even after students had to leave campus COSWB connected through Zoom to offer classes online.

FREE YOGA

Just what it says! Free yoga at the Pardall Center.

HIIT CLASSES

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)  is a cardio session featuring short bursts of very hard work. The purpose of this high-intensity training is to kick up the intensity of the cardio workout. In order to qualify as true HIIT, participants must push themselves to the max during every set. That’s why they’re short—typically anywhere from 20 to 90 seconds.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP PANEL 2020

In winter quarter COSWB partnered with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to host a panel bringing together women leaders from campus and the community, including Third District County Supervisor Joan Hartmann, Undergraduate Research Programs Coordinator Samantha Davis, and Apeel Science’s Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition Shaina Semiatin. Each represented a different field and they come from very different backgrounds. It was a lively evening whose goal was to empower students as they navigate the university and post-graduate life.
