Legal Resource Center (LRC)

INTRODUCTION

Santa Barbara County Courthouse

The AS Legal Center has a long distinguished history of helping students navigate off-campus legal challenges. It’s located on the second floor of the Pardall Center right in the heart of Isla Vista.

The center started as a result of a student initiative to provide FREE legal counseling services to the UCSB campus. ASLRC attorneys are available to consult with all registered UCSB students on any issue or concern in which legal education would be helpful, unless it involves the university or another UCSB student. The center offers legal advice, education, information and/or referrals , and can assist students in identifying and resolving their legal problems.

The mission at the ASLRC is to assist students in responding to legal problems that may be interfering with their academic studies or otherwise adversely affecting their well-being. All consultations are strictly confidential. An ASLRC Attorney will be able to talk with students on legal matters, including, but not limited to, landlord tenant disputes, criminal citations, contracts, personal injury matters, consumer complaints, credit and debt problems, family law, traffic tickets, employment problems, and immigration. ASLRC also has over 50 self-help law books written for the layperson available to consult.
