Student Commission on Racial Equality (SCORE)

INTRODUCTION

The A.S. Student Commission on Racial Equality is a body funded by the UCSB undergraduates concerned with providing a positive and comfortable learning environment for persons from diverse and underrepresented social backgrounds. Its purpose is to confront and proactively resolve issues of ethnicity-related concerns and create and promote programs to educate the student body on issues concerning the campus and community that affect students of UCSB. This Commission implements and supports rules and regulations that help provide a more comfortable atmosphere for students of color on this campus, and networks with other groups, campus departments, and other campuses to help combat racism at UCSB and other educational institutions.

Students of Color Conference

In fall quarter SCORE sent a delegation of students to The Students of Color Conference (SOCC). The conference is the University of California Student Association’s (UCSA) oldest and largest conference, providing a safe space for students of color to strategize around statewide and campus-based actions. SOCC has been hosted every year since 1988! This year’s conference was hosted by UCLA.
