Bike Shop

WHAT THE BIKE SHOP HAS TO OFFER

The AS Bike Shop is our campus one-stop shop for repairs, maintenance, and parts. The shop provides tools and a workspace. Its goal is to instill a DIY, that’s do it yourself, attitude in student, staff, and faculty cyclists of all skill levels. Trained student and staff mechanics know bikes and how to show customers how to keep their wheels moving on down the road with the least possible resistance.

Don’t have time to do it yourself? Repairs are done at prices that are hard to beat. That goes for parts too. The shop carries the basics and can order pretty much any part on the planet. It also has a bike rental program for visitors to our campus.

Student employees train as mechanics. As their skills increase so does their pay. Ultimately, those skills include knowing how to run a small shop and working with a team of skilled employees. These are the kinds of “real world” skills students can apply in all of their post-graduation endeavors.

UCSB BIKE TO WORK DAY

Considering the fact that UCSB is one of the most bike friendly campuses in the USA, it’s no wonder that the Bike Shop staff participated in campus events like Bike to Work Day hosted by the UCSB Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). The day began with breakfast at the Henley Gate, including bicycle shaped pancakes and other treats. Bike Shop Coordinator Adam Jahnke and his crew set up repair stands for quick tune-ups and minor repairs. The Santa Barbara Bike Coalition distributed information about the local cycling scene. There was even a raffle for cool bike related prizes.

And yes, for all you “old timers” the guy with Adam is former Bike Shop Coordinator Mike Rogers!
