Pardall Center

AR15-Pardall CenterOver the course of the past year the Pardall Center, at the heart of Isla Vista, has become a student and community hub that serves the community in a variety of ways. Students acknowledged this service by voting YES on the AS in IV Initiative, which will provide secure funding for the center.

The center served as a safe space to come to terms with the May 23rd tragedy offering an array of services and remembrance events framing the anniversary weekend. In fact, the center was open 24/7 in the days before and after the anniversary to make sure students had a quite space to go whenever they needed it.

This year the Pardall Center was also the staging area for protests against the Majestic Asset Management Company after they evicted several families from their Abrego Apartments. In an out-of-court settlement the company provided tenants with the relocation benefits they deserved. LRC and IVTU played leading roles in seeing that justice was done!

On a lighter note, the Center became the hub for the Isla Vista Community Relations  Committee (IVCRC) and the Community Affairs Board (CAB) when they staged the Pardall Carnival welcoming students and the community at the beginning of fall quarter. The annual event is a fun, family-friendly way for everyone to get to know AS and many other groups that serve the IV and campus communities.

FIRST FLOOR

For example, the Elections Committee used the space this year to orient candidates running in the special election for Student Advocate General.

The Self Help Legal Center, which is accessible to all community members, is another valuable resource offered by the center. It includes online resources in both English and Spanish.
