LOCK-IN REAFFIRMATIONS

buttons_2.25roundEach year students must vote to reaffirm some of the lock-ins that help fund AS groups and a number of campus entities outside AS. The lock-ins must be approved every two years. This year an unusually high number of groups needed to pass their lock-ins and AS also asked students to approve two additional lock-ins. Altogether students were asked to approve lock-ins within AS for AS, KCSB/KJUC; AS Professional Media Staff, i.e. the KCSB career staff; Program Board; Student Commission on Racial Equality (SCORE); Bike Shop; Community Affairs Board (CAB); Recycling Program; Bicycle Path Maintenance Fee and a new Bike Committee lock-in to improve bicycle infrastructure; Isla Vista Improvement Fund (Isla Vista Community Relations Committee) and a new lock-in to secure funding of the AS Pardall Center; AS Child Care Grants; Environmental Affairs Board (EAB); Womyn’s Commission; Coastal Fund; The Bottom Line; AS Community Financial Fund (CFF); Commission on Student Well Being (COSWB); and Take Back the Night. Students also reaffirmed funds that pass through AS to the University Center, Childcare Center, Student Health, Disabled Student Services, Intramural Sports, Multicultural Center (MCC), Office of Student Life (OSL), Arts & Lectures, Rec Sports, Event Center, Campus Learning Assistance Center (CLAS), the Daily Nexus, and the UC Student Association that lobbies statewide on behalf of UC student interests and receives the lion’s share of its funding from students at UCSB.

With an organization-wide grass roots effort, including the work of the newly formed AS Creative Media Unit that planned and produced the publicity, all of the lock-in reaffirmations passed! A special thanks to our new AS Art Director Chelsea Lyon and Creative Media Unit chair Annie Chen.
