COASTAL FUND

INTRODUCTION

Coastal Fund was once again active in supporting a wide range of projects and activities that enhance our local coastline. Each year Coastal Fund grants total approximately $300,000. Applications to the fund are rigorously vetted by students and projects are required to report on their progress. Almost all grants from Coastal Fund fund student internships as part of the project.

Here’s what one intern had to say about his experience with UCSB’s Cheadle Center for Biodiversity & Ecological Restoration (CCBER):

Hello,
I’m thankful to say that I will be continuing to work with CCBER throughout the summer of 2015 and hopefully even into the academic year of ’15-’16. Interning in the Spring of 2015 providing [sic] me great insight into the field work done by CCBER staff and the importance of maintaining local habitats and natural landscapes. I’m thrilled to continue learning with them in the future and working towards a good cause. Thank you for what you do at the Coastal Fund as much of this would not have happened without your work.
Sincerely,
Dominic C.”

COASTAL SERVICE PROGRAM

The Coastal Service Program gives student organizations registered with the Office of Student Life opportunities to raise money while maintaining their local community! Students participated in beach or street cleanups for $100 or worked with a local environmental organizations in restoration projects for $200. All that Coastal Fund asks is for a brief summary of the group’s experience and pictures to document the project. Organizations can participate in one restoration project or beach/street cleanup per quarter. It’s an easy and fun way to fundraise, while contributing to the enhancement of the UCSB campus community!
