Introduction

Wow! Another year gone by and students working through Associated Students and supported by student funds have once again brought the UCSB campus to life in so many ways.

AS is a fully student funded non-profit organization whose programs, initiatives, events, and other activities immeasurably enrich both our campus and the surrounding community. It also provides employment for over 300 students and students participating in AS devote countless volunteer hours to making this world better all around.

From working with UCSB administration, local law enforcement, and county officials to calm unsponsored events like Halloween and Deltopia to organizing the annual Take Back the Night march to confront the reality of violence against women, AS is where students come together to stand up strong and get involved. It’s where students learn that they have real power and how to best exercise that power to get tangible results like well-maintained bike paths and helping underrepresented students gain admittance to UCSB and complete their degrees.

It’s also where students make history through activism that has changed our campus and our world. Students have time and again proven the validity of Margaret Mead’s timeless statement “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
