INTRODUCTION: EVPSA HOMEPAGE
These are the initiatives highlighted on the EVPSA homepage this past year.
Voter Registration:
UCSB holds the record for the highest voter registration rate of any college in the nation. The result of this not only having politically active students, but also having elected officials who care for students and who students can keep accountable. UCSB shows what happens when democracy is done right, and the office will maintain that vision.
Student Empowerment:
In addition to strengthening our electoral power, the office will also boost the culture of political activity within students. Whether it is lobbying our legislators or working along side them to work on bills, we a seeking to bridge the gap between citizens and elected officials.
Coalition-Building:
Power lies in numbers. While the office deals with statewide, nationwide, UC system-wide campaigns, the campaigns are not carried out by our staff member alone. To truly make change and engage the student body, it takes motivated leaders and participants to make our shared visions a reality. Many of our campus organizations already seek the goals of the campaigns our office is handed, such as IGNITE and VOTE. We are strongest when we work together.
Why should students get involved in Associated Students? Associated Students completes the college experience for me, and does so for many others. While the classroom gives you knowledge, Associated Students gives you experience. From lobbying legislators to planning huge concerts, Associated Students offers the channels for students to apply their own passions and interests. This point in our lives is meant for exploration and finding ourselves. This is how to do it.
