Legal Resource Center (LRC)

INTRODUCTION

The Legal Resource Center (LRC) has a long history of serving the Isla Vista Community. This year it played a significant role in the dispute between evicted tenants and Majestic Asset Management, Inc. the new owners of the Abrego Apartments. Their intervention resulted in an out-of-court settlement that gave the tenants compensation they were entitled to by county ordinance.

SERVICES

Day to day, the center provides free consultations, education, and referrals to registered UCSB undergraduate students. It’s committed to advising students of all available legal options, and helping them find and achieve practical resolutions.

The center’s services include offering information and support on a variety of issues:

Minor in Possession, Drunk in Public, or Public Urination citations

Security Deposit Disputes

Restraining Orders

Vehicle Accidents

Lease & Rental Information

and More!

The Center cannot provide formal legal representation, but rather education, facilitation, and self-help services to help students solve problems and obtain favorable results.

Because AS is a university organization, the center can’t get involved in conflicts between two or more UCSB students, or between a student and the University.
