The Office of the Controller acts as a consulting body for the following Associated Students units: A.S. Bike Shop, A.S. Cashiers and Ticket Office, A.S. Community Financial Fund, A.S. Publications, A.S. Legal Resource Center, and any new services which may be developed by the Controller’s Office sub-committee. This committee serves as a liaison for the aforementioned groups to the Senate and the A.S. Executive Director. The office serves as a liaison between A.S. business managers, student employees and the Senate. The office actively seeks proposals for new business enterprises or ventures and makes recommendations to the Senate regarding all proposals for future A.S. business enterprises.

PROJECTS

FROM iCLIKERS TO A TECHNOLOGY RENTAL PROGRAM

Both the Venture Branch and the Internal Branch of the Office of the Controller successfully accomplished numerous projects during the 2015-2016 academic year. The Venture Branch worked with the A.S. Ticket Office to expand the iClicker Rental Program to the Technology Rental Program. In this program, the Controllers Office added products such as laptop chargers, and scientific and graphing calculators which students could rent out starting winter quarter 2016.

STORAGE AT THE AS ANNEX

The Venture Branch successfully created and presented a proposal to the A.S. Media Center regarding storing their loan items in the center’s space. This involved moving the KCSB archives at the center to a new location. This move, which was ultimately successful also provide space for Media Center equipment and the creation of a portrait studio space. The studio was opened for student use during spring quarter. The Controller’s Office ended up storing its loan items at the Ticket Office, which made them readily accessible for check out at the Ticket Office windows.

PORTABLE CHARGING STATIONS

The Venture Branch started a planning its Portable Charging Station program in January. In June it ordered 15 charging stations from ChargeTech to be placed in the Library, SRB, Ucen, A.S Main, and A.S. Paradall Center. The project was not fully completed because the MOU between these locations still needs to be signed the stations can be placed in their respective locations.

SANDWICH BOARDS

The Internal Branch worked with both A.S. Bike Shop and A.S. Publications on publicity and outreach.  This included creating sandwich boards. Internal Branch also sent emails to campus departments, professors, and students to publicize the readers that Publications sells.

SUMMARY AND LOOKING AHEAD

During the course of the year, the Controller’s Office met with numerous A.S. business services entities to understand their current and future projects. For example, members met with the Department of Public Worms and the Zero Waste Committee and offered them marketing ideas and general PR. The office looks forward to another productive year starting fall quarter 2016.
