Isla Vista Community Relations Committee (IVCRC)

INTRODUCTION

IVCRC is responsible for the education of the surrounding community regarding issues within IV and Santa Barbara County. The committee oversees the distribution of IV Improvement Lock-In funds in order to facilitate community programs.

PARDALL CARNIVAL

Each year the IVCRC kicks off the year with the Pardall Carnival in Isla Vista. Featuring carnival rides, games, and all manner of information about student initiated and other campus and community services, the carnival is a beginning-of-the-year welcome celebration for students, community members, families, and kids that’s just plain fun! Attendees even got a free T-shirt for the asking at the IVCRC table in front of the A.S. Pardall Center.

Needless to say, producing the event is a lot of work, but the results were well worth the effort. Check out the video by clicking here!

ADOPT A BLOCK HALLOWCLEAN

IVCRC supported Adopt A Block’s post Halloween IV clean up by providing funding for event T-shirts and, no doubt, also volunteers. Altogether 150 volunteers picked up 2495 pounds of trash and accumulated 263 service hours. That definitely made a difference in IV.

FALL INTO WINTER WITH IVCRC

The leaves were falling and the temperature was dropping…winter was upon us! Like a gentle snowfall on a winter’s day, IVCRC showered students with snacks and scantrons! People brought a friend to enjoy free hot chocolate in IV’s winter wonderland. There were couches to lounge on and music to dance to. It was all about free cookies, free scantrons, and a giant snowman in People’s Park in November heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.

QUARTERLY STUDY JAMS

Each quarter IVCRC hosted a finals study jam in the Pardall Center. We all learn more when we work together!

WINTER RECRUITMENT FAIR

In March IVCRC participated in the Committee on Committees  spring recruitment fair in the Loma Pelona Center to get students involved in A.S. groups. They gave students information about being involved in the IV community and how IVCRC hosted events like the Pardall Carnival and Chilla Vista are produced.

CHILLA VISTA AND LITE NITE

Pardall Carnival and the Chilla Vista festival are the signature events with which IVCRC bookends the school year. Chilla Vista was started many years ago by student initiative to showcase Isla Vista’s unique culture and all it has to offer. As in past years, this year’s event was a sun-filled day of music, information tables, good food, interactive art and most importantly a chill crowd that thoroughly enjoyed what was on offer. This year’s festival was paired with Lite the Nite a memorial lite carnival hosted by UCSB’s Blunite.

IVCRC SUPPORTS

A wide variety of groups received funds from IVCRC throughout the year. What unites them is their commitment to the many communities that define Isla Vista–”the beloved community.”
